About Me

David Paul spent years in front of the camera as part of the legendary body building duo, The Barbarian Brothers, famous for many films in the 1980′s. When David retired from acting and professional weightlifting, he turned his immense talents towards music, poetry and photography. David Paul is an artist, poet, musician and photographer with an extraordinary ability to capture the essence of his subjects. His visionary work has been displayed in some of the finest art galleries in the world. Whether he is photographing muscle and fitness, fashion or soul, David utilizes natural lighting to create truly awe-inspiring works of art.

I'm from LA but i am directing a film back east. So I would love to work on the week ends.....ABOUT ME.....

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Looking into the world he captured love and beauty in a moment
Stopping time; revealing truth in the blink of an eye
Redefining beauty, finding it in obscure places
Gently unveiling the soul with a fingertip
This one eye or third eye revealing what the other two couldn’t see
Turning strangers inside out in search of a moment that could affect the future forever
Art was his purpose, his gift
He knew nothing about everything
Revealing the whole thing on a single page with no words
His silence screamed volumes and the stories it told were endless
Like hidden messages in a catacomb it could take a hundred years to uncover the genius of this depiction
The interpretation would prove to be who they were…

I got my start in photography in the fitness industry where I learned to tell a story in a poetic avant-garde way while at the same time remaining commercial . In one year I shot every add in the fitness industry that they still try to copy today.

I set a record in Portland’s Pearl district, the 2nd largest art district in the US at The Lawrence Gallery. The show was “Behind the Art”, seven chapters of a woman’s life. It focused on the birth , rebirth, childhood, and the falling out and the selling out we do in our search for inner peace, spiritually and joy. I followed a woman for a year. We did 52 photo shoot and took more than 3000 black and white images. The people from Music Cares saw the show and and commissioned The Art of Music . Music Cares is a $2500 dinner the night before the Grammys.

David Paul has been my personal photographer for the last 6 years. He's such an extraordinary talent. He truly has the ability to see who you are... Or maybe more importantly see who you feel you are. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He's also one of the kindest most ethical people I've ever known.

I hope this note finds you well.

Sincerely,

️Mariel Hemingway

I have known David Paul for over thirty years. In that time I have seen him pursue not just a career as a photographer and artist... but he lives the life of an artist as well. He is endlessly and tirelessly creative. He is prolific, bold, and committed. As a photographer he has created images the likes of which I've never seen... building on both traditional and ground breaking techniques, employing both new and old technology to create haunting, seductive or playful imagery.

As a portrait photographer, David always seems to capture not just his subjects and their emotions, but the surroundings of his subjects and the world they are in. He is also extremely collaborative and a lot of fun to be with. David Paul is a good man, and a great photographer.

Sincerely,

Jon Turteltaub
